Field Trip to Northern Ireland 2010

In April and May 2010, a small group of our fourth year and graduate students travelled to Northern Ireland to study some of the classic geological localities in Europe. Northern Ireland is one of the few places in the world where the transition from the Triassic to the Jurassic geological periods is exposed.
The trip was led by Adjunct Research Professor Helen Roe, Dr. Brian Cousins and Dr. Tim Patterson. The program was further enhanced by an all-star cast of Irish geologists - a total of 18 guest specialists! Each one an expert in his field, they represented the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, Queens University Belfast, the Geological Survey of Ireland, the Ulster Museum and the Marble Arch Caves.
BBC Northern Ireland even did a piece on our field school for the evening news (see video link above). It was a truly awesome trip!
